The future may bring any number of emergencies into your life and it is always best to be highly proactive and very prepared to face whatever comes your way. During an emergency, a 3 day survival kit will get you off on the right foot to maintain your entire family. It is this time period that is the most important and critical as help may take that long or longer to arrive.

An emergency could consist of an enemy attack, a nuclear or other bomb, or severe weather fluctuations such as a tornado, hurricane or tsunami. Whatever the case, the essential supplies and all of your necessary equipment on hand when these life-threatening event occur can be what saves the lives of yourself and your family.

You are going to need a variety of items to ensure your safety and sustainability. By having these at your disposal for even this short period will give you time to re-group and re-think your position and then react. You will be ready to take on so much more than other individuals who did not have the foresight to prepare for such occurrences. Necessary items will include food, first aid items, shelter and blankets, communication devices, food and food preparation equipment.

A good first aid box should include pain relief tablets, thermometer, band aids, gauze, rubbing alcohol and peroxide, tape, and scissors. Communication equipment should include a radio that can be operated by batteries or solar energy, two-way radios for communication between family members and extra cell phones with battery-powered chargers. Other items needed will include flashlights, matches, lighters, a hammer or hatchet, and a manual can opener. Sanitation items, soap, and baby and pet supplies may also be needed depending on your family dynamics. Always include contact information for other family members, personal documents such as drivers licenses, birth certificates and social security cards, and maps of the surrounding areas.

The type of shelter you require will depend on the emergency and the part of the country where you live. Those who live in areas with harsh winters or heavy rains will need more adequate shelter than those who reside in warm or tropical states. The type of emergency will determine whether you must leave your home or not. If you do, you will need a tent or at the very minimum, a large tarp, rope and stakes. Blankets and sleeping bags are also needed. A company that specializes in preparing for disasters will have special blankets that hold in the warmth much more efficiently.

Being ready and prepared for any emergency will help safeguard you and your loved ones. Begin all of your preparations immediately and your chances of surviving will increase greatly. There is no such thing as being too ready for a catastrophe.
